Chocolate Orange Dessert Pots (Vegan, Gluten-Free)
These Chocolate Orange Dessert Pots are easy to make and need just four ingredients. Vegan and gluten-free, they can be enjoyed by everyone.
- 80 g coconut yoghurt
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- 2 tsp syrup
- Juice & zest from ¼ orange plus extra for topping (optional)
Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
Divide between two small pots (I used ramekins).
Refrigerate for a minimum of one hour.
When ready to serve, remove from the fridge and top each pot with ¼ orange slice and a sprinkle of orange zest (optional).
Key Ingredients and Substitutions
Coconut Yoghurt: My favourite coconut yoghurt is The Coconut Collaborative Natural Coconut Yog, but any other brand should be fine. You could also try using another plant-based yoghurt with a thick and creamy consistency, for example Greek-style, though I haven't tested this so can't promise similar results!
Cacao Powder: I love the taste of cacao powder, but if you're not a fan you could try using cocoa powder instead. If this is the case, you may need to use a higher quantity to get a strong chocolate flavour. Just taste test as you go!
Syrup: I use fruit syrup, but any liquid sweetener you have to hand should be fine. You may need to use less if you're using sweetened yoghurt or cocoa powder, or alternatively you may want to use more for a sweeter taste. Again, be sure to taste test while mixing ingredients!
Orange Juice & Zest: The orange zest gives a stronger orange flavour so I would recommend using it, but isn't essential if you don't have access to a zester. If you'd prefer a classic chocolate flavour instead, just leave out the orange!
Making Ahead of Time?
If making ahead of time, make sure to check the storage instructions of your coconut yoghurt as this varies between brands.
